RIDING WITH THE ALBERTA RANDONNEURS

  • You should have access through the internet to http://www.albertarandonneurs.com/
  • If you are new to randonneuring, please read the Training Info link and the Safety link to ensure that you understand the basic aspects of Randonneuring.
  • You must have a cycle that is adequately prepared and proper clothing and equipment for the given ride that you are preparing to do.
  • Early season rides in Alberta can be quite challenging given the potential of cold, snow, rain and/or wind, and you will be out there for a long time.

For each ride you will . . .

  1. Choose a ride from our Ride Schedules and email or phone the assigned ride coordinator to ensure that you have the right ride location and time and that the coordinator knows that you will participate.
  2. Some rides on the Ride Schedules site feature maps, brevet cards, and route descriptions which you can print.
  3. If a map, brevet card, or route description is not shown, the ride coordinator will provide you with that information.
  4. You will need all three with you on the ride, preferably in a transparent waterproof bag.
  5. Make sure that you and your bike are prepared for the ride.
  6. For rides of 300km or more, remember to have proper lights and a reflective vest. See Safety
  7. Arrive at the beginning of the ride early and, if it is your first ride, make sure that you have completed our membership process.
  8. Once on the ride you will need to have your ride attested at each control (i.e., checkpoint), by having a store or service station attendant sign and enter the time in the appropriate spot on your Brevet Card.
  9. Make sure that you arrive at each control between the opening and closing times for the control.
  10. At the completion of a ride sign the card and get it to your ride coordinator within 24 hours.
  11. Before your ride, you should arrange how you are going to get your completed card to your coordinator.
  12. Your part is now finished, and you can head home for a well-deserved rest and recuperation. Congratulations.

After the ride ...

  1. The ride coordinator will sign off on your ride results and send your information to the club President, for entry into the club records.
  2. If the ride is ACP approved, the President will send the ride information to the ACP in Paris.
  3. This must be done within one week of the ride completion, for ACP recognition.
  4. When the ride is processed by Paris, they will send back a homologation number that will be entered into the club records and supplied to you.
  5. This number will be necessary when you apply to ride in significant Randonneur events like Paris-Brest-Paris and Rocky Mountain 1200.

  • You are ready for your next ride.
  • It sounds pretty complicated, but you do your part it actually doesn't take much effort.
  • Good luck.
